Here’s a fun fact: emotions only last 90 seconds.
That’s right, go search it up. It’s a scientific fact.
But the reason why we feel any prolonged emotion, for example, hurt, is because our thoughts hold us captive in those emotions.
Our thoughts immediately jump make sense of how we’re feeling. We instantly judge the situation which stirred the emotion. For example, you send that text. You feel fear, anxious, or worry. You go “I don’t like this feeling it’s horrible” (judgement). “I shouldn’t have sent the text that way, or at all” (judgement). Then you start hearing a never ending line of thoughts go “but what if”, stirring up more emotions in response to the new thoughts you conjured.
Emotions only last 90 seconds if we allow ourselves to feel it, thereafter it’s the narratives we spin in our heads and the stories we tell ourselves that makes an experience subjectively worse than what it really is.
Feel every ounce of your emotions without judgement. Simply allow. Most of us don’t allow ourselves to feel the full fledge of it. Instead, we start talking to ourselves because we’re afraid of raw emotion. Acknowledge that your mind will constantly try to keep you safe with a lot of chatter, but remember that you are not your thoughts. They form the subjective reality of your current experience.
